Mental health and wellbeing in the workplace
Stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 15.4 million working days off related to work place ill-health in 2017. On average, each person suffering took around 28.5 days off work. *
Addressing the mental health of your work force could not be more important, both for them and for you.
Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. In England, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (such as anxiety and depression) in any given week.**
So, in simple terms, a quarter of your workforce could be suffering in silence. Whether work is causing the issue or aggravating it, as employers you have a legal responsibility to help your employees.
It goes without saying that a happy workforce is a super productive workforce, so great team and individual mental health is a total win-win for you all.
I can help. I offer a range of services to help you help your teams by bringing mental health and wellbeing to the forefront of everyone’s minds, creating a more positive work culture.
121 Coaching with your staff
I spend time in your business opening up an impartial and confidential space for people to talk about anything they’d like, whether it’s personal, professional, a challenge or something they’d like to work on.
Working with each individual over a period of weeks and even months to help them be their best selves, I create a safe, confidential space for them to vent, process and clear what they need to. This will allow them to choose how they want to respond in life, instead of being run by their emotions. I offer a space to release, reconnect and replenish so that they can work and live with more fulfilment. The impact of this will ripple throughout the team.
People who are believed in, valued and supported by their managers have much more resiliency and are more loyal and productive.
121 Coaching with you the Leader
Being the holder of the fort who everyone is looking to for inspiration, decision making, safety and sounding board brings a whole new level of stress and responsibility. Being courageous may come easily or you may feel stuck, you may feel overwhelmed by this responsibility or you may just need to re-find your energy and enthusiasm for the tasks ahead.
We all have emotions and if we don’t process the ones that negatively impact us, they turn into uglier beasts, worsening the affect on our physical and mental health. To sustain yourself as a Leader, it is crucial that you consistently look after your mental health and wellbeing.
It is important to note that coaching is not therapy and, like everything in life, has its limits. You can read about my professional ethics and boundaries here….
Many employees report feeling disconnected or alienated from their bosses and or colleagues. In a world of ever-increasing expectation and work life pressure, reconnecting your team is both vital and fun.
I hold a series of team workshops, facilitating them getting to know each other. They’re fun, they’re challenging and they clear out prejudice and assumptions made about each other.
The end result is a happier, more enlightened and tolerant team, a team willing to work together and tackle projects more collaboratively and effectively.
The intention of these workshops is that they are not an isolated approach to nurture good mental health and wellbeing in the workplace but are part of a broader culture of support and openness within the organisation. As with our physical health, mental health requires taking care of in a proactive and sustained way.
